The New Upgrade System: Skill Points and Dynamic Paths
College Football 27 Ultimate Team is finally here, introducing a massive overhaul to roster building and player progression. The biggest change is the New Upgrade System, a redesigned approach built around flexibility and customization. The foundation of this system is Skill Points (SP). These points are tied directly to individual player items and can be used to improve multiple aspects of an item, including Dynamic Upgrade Paths, Attribute Upgrade Paths, Ability Slots, and Chemistry Slots.
Skill Points can be earned through gameplay by completing Objectives on Items, exchanging tokens/items, and purchasing with other currencies. Each item has a Max Skill Point cap, encouraging continued gameplay. A key feature is the Dynamic Upgrade by Archetype. These paths are based on position archetypes, meaning two Halfback player items might begin similarly but evolve into very different builds over time. Each upgrade step randomly increases a subset of ratings within that archetype's rating group, creating more variation and differentiation as player items progress.
Season 1 Content: Standouts, Legends, and the First Wave of Items
Season 1 has launched with a massive wave of programs. The Standouts program highlights rising stars, high-profile transfers, and breakout talent. The launch brings a new Field Pass to grind, containing a plethora of rewards including Coins, Uniform Packs, and upgradable tokens that can be used on the Welcome Pack player. The Standouts program also offers an Upgradeable Player that you can earn just for logging in. Featured Standouts player items include Robert Griffin III, Ellis Robinson IV, Myles Graham, Trey Lathan, and Stanquan Clark.
The Legends program is a massive draw, featuring more than 100 former college stars. Headliners confirmed by EA Sports include Bo Jackson, Richard Sherman, Tavon Austin, Brian Bosworth, and Drew Bledsoe. The S1 Legends program also features player items like the OVR 87 Jamaal Charles (East/West Playmaker).
