Ole Miss's remaining schedule presents both opportunities and challenges. The Rebels face Tulane this week before entering SEC play with a crucial stretch: at Texas A&M, home vs. Alabama, at Auburn, and home vs. Mississippi State.

The SEC gauntlet could make or break their playoff hopes. A 3-1 or better record in those four games would likely secure a spot in the SEC championship game, while 2-2 would leave them dependent on other results.

Sam Leavitt's Emergence as Elite Quarterback

Quarterback Sam Leavitt's performance against LSU—287 yards, two touchdowns, plus 43 rushing yards—solidified his status as one of the SEC's elite quarterbacks. His ability to extend plays and make throws under pressure gives Ole Miss an offense capable of scoring on any possession.

"Sam's grown so much this year," Golding said. "He's confident, he's decisive, and he makes the right reads. When your quarterback plays like that, you can beat anyone."

Defensive Identity Under Golding

After taking over as head coach following Kiffin's departure to LSU, Golding has maintained the defensive identity that made Ole Miss one of the SEC's toughest teams to score against. The Rebels allow just 16.7 points per game and have forced 8 turnovers in three games.

The defensive continuity, combined with offensive explosiveness, gives Ole Miss the balanced profile that playoff committees reward.

What Must Happen for CFP Berth

Ole Miss likely needs to win the SEC West and reach the conference championship game. A victory there would virtually guarantee a playoff spot. Even with two losses, a strong SEC West title could be enough if other conferences have multiple teams with similar records.

The Rebels control their destiny. Win out, and they're in. The challenge is maintaining focus and avoiding letdowns against lesser opponents.
