While PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S consoles receive the standard release, this installment makes history as the first title in the series available on Windows. The game features 138 playable teams, expanding the roster with new additions North Dakota State and Sacramento State, which joined the Football Bowl Subdivision in 2026. The standard edition cover highlights Oregon quarterback Dante Moore, Ole Miss running back Kewan Lacy, and Miami wide receiver Malachi Toney. These athletes were selected after their respective schools reached the 2025–26 College Football Playoff semifinals.

Franchise History and Growth
This release represents the third game in the EA Sports College Football franchise since its return in 2024, and the 24th overall including the preceding NCAA Football series. The series originally began in 1993 with Bill Walsh College Football. EA eventually acquired the licensing rights to the NCAA name, rechristening the series with NCAA Football 98. However, the NCAA announced in July 2013 that it would not renew its licensing contract due to ongoing legal disputes regarding player likenesses.
Although the Collegiate Licensing Company extended its deal through 2017, three major conferences pulled their trademarks, placing the series on hiatus in September 2013. In February 2021, Electronic Arts announced the series would return for next-gen platforms. During an interview with ESPN.com in November 2022, an executive revealed the game would release in mid-2024 due to the enormous undertaking of creating the game from scratch. Following the commercial success of EA Sports College Football 25, which became the best-selling sports video game in US history based on dollar sales, the series continued annualization. Industry reports indicate a 20 percent increase in active users compared to the previous year.
