A New Voice Joins the Fight

The college football eligibility fight just got a state government behind it. Georgia Attorney General Chris Carr sent a formal letter to SEC commissioner Greg Sankey on September 2, 2026, urging the conference to 'take all measures available' — including suspending or removing LSU from the SEC — if the Tigers elect to roster former NFL players this season.

What the Letter Says

Carr's office stated it is prepared to 'use all legal means necessary to protect the University of Georgia, student athletes, and the integrity of college athletics.' The letter was delivered the day before a scheduled preliminary injunction hearing in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, where Sankey is set to personally contest Judge William Jorden's ruling that blocked the SEC from enforcing its penalty rule.

Carr added: 'College athletics are for college athletes only, and we are grateful the SEC has taken swift action to maintain that standard.' He followed with a sharper line: 'However, the rules cannot be ignored or twisted to benefit one coach, one institution, or one program, and we refuse to stand by while that happens.'

Why This Is New

This is not a duplicate of the Texas federal court case or the SEC's own litigation response. It is an independent state-level escalation: a third party (UGA's home-state government) weighing in with direct pressure on the commissioner. Carr also flagged the geography: 'It is no coincidence that the very institution set to potentially use this temporary order to flout the SEC's rule is in the trial court's own backyard.'

Kiffin's Response

Lane Kiffin offered a characteristically thin reply: 'We don't put any energy into it. We'll wait to get more information tomorrow and more guidance from the SEC.'

What This Means for CFB 27

In CFB 27 Dynasty, the LSU roster is rated on the game's pre-season data, but the real-world eligibility uncertainty is a dynasty-mode cautionary tale: never over-invest in a program whose core pieces could be ruled out between roster updates. For the actual 2026 season, the game is set for Saturday at No. 11 LSU hosting No. 17 Clemson on ABC.
